The moment is at hand

This song tells it all

Believe me I WISH this was some post about how awesome San Antonio is and that me and my wife are doing so well here and write some awesome blogging tips post and feel the love :)
I actually have been in a fight against the hardest place I have ever lived to survive. Believe me it’s not lack of effort or skill it’s just that this place is disgusting and lacks any real opportunities. Both online and real life has seemed to evaporate and I don’t like when I feel overly desperate. I was a full time criminal much of my life and since blogging 2 yrs I have not committed any crimes except marijuana possession and don’t plan on going back to that route.
I was relatively naive about just how bad the economy really is. People that I know that would lend me a $1000 no question are broke. I always knew what to do whether it was take any shit job for a while to selling drugs or whatever but now that I’m going to be 45 this summer I don’t do things that are not good for your freedom.
Man I tried my best and mentioned on twitter today what do you do when your best wasn’t good enough ?
With all the crazy shit going on in the world today it would be easy to say fuck it start drinking let old resentments come alive and go back to NY and whack a few old enemies some of them family. I could do that well I mean the OLD me could do that.
Blogging has let me learn a lot about myself and a lot about how people really are. I have self respect today and if I knew I was doing everything possible for my family and we ended up sleeping in a tent I would be happy and keep trying.
We can’t quit what choice do we really have ?
Hey who knows the phone may ring any minute :)
Have you been dealt some serious setbacks from this economy ? what did you do ? Thanks

I get the feeling with this economy, your best probably isn’t going to be enough to get ahead – maybe to stay afloat, but not seemingly to get ahead. What I am in the process of learning is that you can’t be down based on the results – you have to focus on the fact that you are giving it your best, no matter what the outcome. If you focus just on the outcome then anything you do becomes a downer if it’s not working out, no matter how much of yourself you put into it.

    Hi John,

You know, just the fact that you found a way to express yourself through blogging could be an answer to a lot of folks out there. I mean, just by reading your post here made me think more positive. Even if what you describe is somehow painful it does end on a positive note. At least for me it does! :)
I guess it all comes down to finding something your passionate about and keep doing it even if “the best you can do is not enough”. I don’t know if that makes any sense… but that’s how I feel right now.
    Take care, Remi

I lost my (very good paying job with decent benefits) at the end of 2008. No layoff for me, just straight up fired. I was relieved since it was draining and I never would have quit.

I started reading all the deal blogs and finding ways to get super cheap, free, or even better than free (make money on my purchases) food and household stuff just to stretch my savings. I live in squat and pee nowhere Virginia and there is NO OPPORTUNITY here. If you’re not related you’re not up for the job. And almost everyone here is related in some way (except my family). Yet, I am fairly happy. Maybe I have a brain tumor and don’t realize that my happiness is just some delusional state created to keep me from going completely mad. ;) Nah.

The economy stinks, and we can only hope that better times are around the corner. In the past year my income was cut to about one-third of what I was used to (my choice), but I can tell you money doesn’t buy happiness. I couldn’t wait around for a “better economy”, but I am happier on less even though it is a daily financial struggle.

Doing what you love, being proud of what you accomplish because you do your best, waking up each morning excited about the possibilities, and enjoying friends and family are what it is all about. Money is just a nice side effect. Self respect isn’t worth sacrificing for money. Good for you John! :)

What don’t break us makes us stronger mate.;)

The economy is shit, will be for a while I bet.
Being a stonemason, my trade was at the top of the building trade so the first to get hit, shit but that’s the way it goes.

  8. Karen @ Blazing Minds says:

Economy! What stinking Economy ….. I think the whole world is going belly up at the moment, well, it certainly seems that way ;)

The Phone is ringing Off the Hook :)
There’s work I just had to adjust my mindset :)
it makes it so much sweeter when you have the support of so many cool blogging friends around the WORLD :)
    Thanks Guys

Wish I could add some amazing words of wisdom here John. You know the ‘accept the things you cannot change, change the things you can’ but that shiz get’s tiring to here I know! What I would say is or what my motto is ‘is don’t give up, don’t ever give up’. Your not alone that’s for sure.

More than likely putting it down like you did for all to see will help you about as much as anything I hope.

Nice talking to you yesterday by the way. We’ll do it again someday.

    Peace
    Lee
Look at my page source and grab that canonical link and add it to your header and your htaccess may need some tweaking :)
Now pay me 5 dolla :P LOL
I hope your not commenting everywhere like that :)

    • lee shizzle says:

No not commenting everywhere like that. I usually catch it before I send. Happened when I first switched domains. Even the search pg. will get you there but of course most ppl will move on before clicking again. It’s all good and fixed now. As for $5 well when I clicked out I bought you a cup a mudd. So a few more of those in the next few days should get us close to even. Thanks for the shout letting me know. What I don’t understand is that I never got an email for replies/comments.

  11. Andy Bailey says:

    crime doesn’t pay (enough)

your old mindset was easy-quick-smash-and-grab type of affair, if something didn’t work out, hell, go do another somewhere else. Nobody cares about burning bridges if they’re a career criminal, lol, there’s an oxymoron. career-criminal ! it’s more like one risk after another and when things don’t work? get riskier! (seen it done it got the (federal) t-shirt) :-P

stick with your blogging friends, they wont care you’ve got no money for a while, they’ll still back you up and help you to find opportunities to ‘make money’ instead of ‘take money’

I told you in our emails, people like honesty, you’re honest. Keep doing that and things will get better, you just gotta let them.

oh, and that’s 5 dolla for the advice. kthx!
    :P

  12. Lost Moments says:

Never give up John, that’s what I’ve learned from my association with you. No matter what shit comes your way it’s only a matter of shoveling it out of your path so that you can see the road that will lead to your success. Going backwards isn’t the answer unless it’s just a little back peddling so that you get a better look at what’s in front.

Economy! What stinking Economy ….. I think the whole world is going belly up at the moment, well, it certainly seems that way.
Just fed up with it sometimes.

  14. Hanging By A Moment says:

The economy won’t really get better any time soon…….so its really upon each one of us (web site owners) to practice good SEO and stay on top of the SERP, which in turn keeps us all profitable. Whether you are monetizing a blog site, or using a static web site — its all the same when it comes down to how we stay ahead of the game!

  15. Hanging By A Moment says:

We are all now waiting for the Limp Bizkit concert in Warsaw, Poland, in 2010…
I’ve been to the Szczecin concert in 2009, and I have to say they have rocked!

  16. ashok says:

I think a lot of us are in the position where we feel we’re getting older and haven’t done enough, and are wondering what is it we could have done that would have been enough. It does feel like opportunity, generally speaking, just isn’t there, whether it is for money or for helping others or getting an idea spread.

I can safely say what you’re doing with BloggerLuv is a huge help to me and a number of others. Definitely hope it returns practically for you, but I’m confident it will.

Thanks so much for your efforts!

  17. DazzlinDonna@Online Coaching says:

Sometimes it’s just a matter of hanging on for a bit. I’m struggling right now too. But I know if I can just manage to hang on, keep that roof over my head, that my tenacity will see me through until times are a bit better. Plus it never hurts to re-learn and remember how to live simply.
