Letting go of the dead

by John Sullivan on April 24, 2010 · 7 comments

in life

Despite being lead as a kid  to believe that somehow the people we love are looking down on us  and if we prayed to them it would be told to God and it was all just some life continued in another realm. Boy I wish that was what was going to happen. I always believed if there was a heaven then everyone would surely get in because what kind of father would leave any of his children out ?

When people die it does trip me out for a while maybe I still do fear death and just disguise that reality by thinking about the inevitable.

The only thing I hate about Life is Death.

Did you ever take a trip back into your past to deal with the loss of someone ?

Did you ever  think I’m lucky to be here Life is short and when your dead your done so best make the best of it NOW ?

I actually got a chance two years ago to stay with my first girlfriend for like 2 months. I would take walks and think about life.

My Mother actually died while I was up there lucky for my brother and sister who had no intention$ letting me know LUCK saved them.

Anyway I went to the local cemetery one day with the girl to see her Mom’s spot and walked around and was tripping on the fact that I knew everyone there. Some dead 30 years some I was very hurt to see and thought about how unfair life can often be.

Has anyone’s death changed you as a person either for good or bad ?

Thanks

Bonus ?

Do you have anyone that you still think believe and feel can hear you and you just carry on as if they are still there in your life ?

I just wrote about death and dying a few weeks ago. A good friend of mine from school died 6 months ago. We had lost touch and when I read about it I couldn’t help but cry.

I swear I could hear my ex-husband for quite some time after he died. I can sometimes still hear a “damnit Anne”. :) But all of that could be due to how close we were.

I believe in other planes of existence and have ever since I was 8 or 9 and read Jonathan Livingston Seagull. It’s such a beautiful thought and I do hope it’s true.

I handle death pretty weird, or at least I think weird. I wouldn’t say that any one specific death I have gone through has changed anything.

My best friend died three years ago. It still hurts. He was not just my friend he was also my mentor. He was so funny, he would have everyone around him laughing.

I think I am a better person for knowing him but I am not sure his death changed me other than to make me sad.

I lost my mom last year while I was on vacation and I still have not fully recovered. We had a rocky relationship from time to time, but in the last 2 years of her life we had gotten better. I’m so happy for that. Death is so final, that it makes you realize it is not good to carry grudges.

And John as you know, I lost my son 5 years ago to Diabetes. That one rocked my world and changed my life! For a whole year after he died, I thought I was going to lose my mind or kill myself. To this day when I think of him I cry, I really miss him. Losing a child is THE worst feeling in the whole world. Out of all the bad things that have happened to me, nothing compared to losing my son.
