Actually I'm new to blogging, so I wasn't aware of James' site. I will definitely have to check it out though because you said he is a "people person" pretty much, and that's the kind of blogs I'm finding that I like posting at. I really like posting a genuine comment on a post I like, and going back and seeing the blog owner has left me a message back, continuing our growing relationship.

As for the follow-up part you mentioned, I think that can be the hardest part of keeping up once you get going. It's all good and well to start something and make it nice, but you have to go back and tend to it and interact with it.

I guess in a way a blog is like a person, there are certain things it needs to grow and get bigger or else it will just stay the same and stall out! :D
