In Alcoholics Anonymous one the the keys to real success is when you reach out to an older member you admire and has Good Sobriety and you ask them to be your Sponsor. I’m not a member of AA today but I’m still great friends with the guy who was my sponsor and we are actually best friends today. Rob calls me when I’m up and down he doesn’t base our friendship on what I can do for him and vice versa. I learn from Rob because he is successful in all aspects of his life.

I was thinking today why not apply this same successful model to blogging. Blogging can often be such a lonely place and there is no stronger power then having another blogger there for you when you need them.
Sponsoring someone would give you a chance to help someone achieve there goals quicker I think no matter what level of blogger you are there are plenty of people that can use your help. HELP to me is actually helping the person not criticizing and leave someone hanging because your to BUSY
I would ask someone to be my sponsor if I saw they were working on things that I wanted to learn about. I don’t really buy anything of that Life coaching nonsense but I can see where I benefited today from talking with someone who is actually a Life coach Go figure
LOL Anyway I think the main point is just to open yourself up to being available to other bloggers and also not staying stuck in the thought process of I don’t need anyone’s HELP. <Really ?
Recently the phone has been giving me a GREAT benefit. As OUR new project Blogger LUV was getting STOMPED out by trojans I was touching base with some awesome bloggers via phone and instead of sitting here embarrassed about a site going down right at the same time I’m getting requests by people to build them sites, I could of used it as a excuse to Quit, walk away and say well I tried fuck it. But oh no I slept and had a nice meal and some nice coffee, watched the President, talked to my Friends on the phone and took a step back and BREATHED see now how cool was that ?
Some people that I know that would make Excellent sponsors and the first one I won’t mention because I’m getting ready to ask him myself
but I was thinking George who actually won my 1st annual most improved Blogger of the year 2009 would be an awesome sponsor. Now bear in mind that a sponsorship is supposed to be win win. Not that you waste George or anyone elses time and they do a whole bunch of things for you and you split. I think I had a sponsee a while back. Tony came on the scene FAST he had a Christian related blog and we clicked quick not because of Jesus but he was thirsty. A few months before Christmas I was banking LARGE and I put Tony on and as he made more he became harder to reach and it was confusing. I don’t know what happen to him but I see his blog is gone and who knows ? For a while after that I wasn’t to open for a repeat of that and went underground for along time.
Who knows maybe bloggers like to just run their own show and don’t see any value in having a Blog Buddy etc but I think it’s something that can really help and takes stress away so anything like that has to be good ![]()
What are your thoughts on this ? Also I would link to George and could add a bunch of people’s links that I think would make great sponsors but just like in AA you want it you have to work for it. No sponsor walks up to you and says Hey I will be your sponsor unless their some desperate GOOF. So try it send someone an email or call and say I was reading on a blog they mentioned about a blog sponsor (NO not the people that give you money for an ad on your blog ) so I was wondering if you would take me under your wing for a little while so I can learn what you do and maybe pass it on one day. BAMM get your foot in the door then see where the “friendship” takes you. Also EVERYONE can learn from a Newcomer (AA NAME ) I love new bloggers because they are so damn exciting and make you think back to all the trouble you had installing wordpress when you were new and all that.

So what do you think and any sponsor that thinks a person should pay them for anything is a LOSER. If you can’t give back some of your time to people that are trying to get ahead you might want to think about that. Anyway just a thought because I have been benefiting from people’s help and support
Sponsorship should ALWAYS be WIN WIN.PERIOD
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts I do appreciate it ![]()
If your looking for a sponsor add your blogs url and I will check it out and recommend someone that I think you can benefit from and Yes it’s true I know the coolest bloggers in the WORLD

I must admit that this post led me on a completely different path than I imagined, cool way to suck me in John, I was so hoping to make some real cash
I think it’s a pretty cool idea as long as you allow for certain time constrictions. So many people lead such busy lives that it can be hard to take someone under their wing for full on one on one assistance.
I’ve had people ask me for help and I always help where I can. I once got someones blog online because they were having hassles and after trying to do it via emails for awhile she trusted me enough to give me ftp access and so I did it all for her. I even wrote a post about how to do it so that it could help others.
As to sponsors thinking they should be paid for helping people out, that’s just like helping an old woman across a busy street and stopping half way with your had out before taking her the rest of the way.

I like your style of writting.
These tips are really helpful.I came to know a lot of useful things from this post. Thanks a lot for sharing. Keep blogging. Looking forward to reading your next post.
Over the past six months I have been learning blogging, creating websites, SEO etc and I have to say that a majority of my learning has come from blogs. Where I have asked questions in the comment section, approximately 90% of the blog owners have responded to me.
In a way, they were my mentors and never ever knew it, the information that I have picked up has helped me so much.

Using the phone is a pretty novel approach, as all of my correspondence is through email or im. However, what you say about not needing money to help someone is spot on. The relationships you build by visiting and commenting are incredibly powerful and there are so many non-monetary ways that those types of relationships can be beneficial, especially in the long run as you actually get to know the person. It really is almost a slap in the face to expect people to pay…
Yeah, it’s a good idea, but always hard to pull of a win-win situation, in business or personal life.
Guy.

Totally radical idea, John. I like it. The only problem that I see is that since blogging is such a popularity contest, you’re going to get about a million bloggers wanting to be sponsored by the John Chows, the Leo Babautas, the David Risleys, and the Darren Rowses. So many bloggers just don’t seem to understand the fellowship part of blogging, and that’s a sad fact.
Then again, there’s a lot of good people in the blogosphere, and if someone in need reaches out and is willing to give back in the relationship, then a lot of good can possibly come out of it.
And yes, while bloggers do like to run their own show, we must learn to network and collaborate. Individually, there’s only so much we can do, but together, we can move mountains.

I must admit that you have got your own style of writing.Keep it up this way and your blog will be branded soon.
I am new on your blog and now I have bookmarked it.Keep it up.
I like your mindset and wish more people out there thought like you. The mentality of kicking down the next person not on your level is sickening. People get so narrow minded that they cant see that we all benefit when we help each other out..good post
@ps3 consoles – you are so right in what you say, but thats life. It’s like when people who were your friends make it big (rich by means of money, business, etc), then they are all of a sudden to busy for you or don’t even acknowledge you when you see each other in some place.
I always tell myself to be better and greet them, even if they don’t. We don’t want to drop our standards to their level and they realise their mistake when the money runs out or when things don’t work out. Never hold a grudge against them, it’s a human reaction.

We all need sponsors in life and even our online life. It makes the learning curve a lot easier and we enjoy it more as well. John, as you can see, many users out there would love to meet you. All I can say, is that if you ever pop in at South Africa, look me up and I will definitely drop a lot to see you face to face. A ticket overseas is a bit expensive for me now, have to accomplish many tasks this year and all my pennies are being spent to the max.
BTW, I have added this post to Monday’s roundup, I’m sure many could learn from it and you might even be a sponsor for one of my readers
