Dang, this was the post I wanted to comment on half an hour ago before I got sidetracked reading the rest of your blog, lol. I loved Avatar. It was amazing. I'll be going back to see it again, and can't wait to watch it in 3D in my living room!

I have heard the story line is pretty weak, but the special effects more then make up for it. I have to see it in the theater before it's too late.

I have to say that i loved this movie. Me, my wife and 2 kids went at 10am in the morning and it only cost $6 each with the 3D glasses. I would of paid full price for this movie. It was that good! And im not even a scfi person. I give it 4 stars.

I took my wife to see it December 29th .. with the inlaws. I was already psyched out to pay the $11.99 plus taxes for the 3D glasses each, overpriced popcorn and drinks, and even go out for dinner afterwards. I tried my hardest not to watch it for free online and wait for the movie theater, and despite all the reviews I read up to December 28th (ooooh it's exactly like Dances With Wolves Script blah blah blah blah) I didn't care. I wanted to see the 3D effect!

I'm glad I saw it in the theater and not on PPV or VOD or free off the internet. Honestly - I haven't seen a movie in 3D since those funny paper glasses with red on one side and green on the other. WHAT A TREAT the way technology is and the glasses even fit over my own glasses. There was a few times I felt like reaching up and swatting away those Gnat'y little creatures hovering off the screen and when they filmed inside the buildings walking up and past furniture and tables was cool. The 'oh let's fly together in the wind' scene was the worst, yet despite that - the scenery wasn't too shabby doll - if you know what I mean.

I would have given a 4-1/2 rating with the 3D in the theatre, probably a 2-1/2 watching it with Russian subtitles online lol

I haven't seen the movie yet but i have to say that everyone i know that has seen it, has loved it. I actually had a message on my answering machine today from my father in law who lives in Arizona who has just seen it and he told me that i have to seen it. I was going to wait until it came out on blu-ray because i too am not much of a sci fi fan but i think i am going to have to go watch it at the theater.

"Avatar" was my first IMAX and IMAX 3D experience, and it was an experience I will never forget. I must admit, after watching the trailers, at times I was excited for the movie, at times I was skeptical. I was, at one point, in two minds about whether or not I really should go and see this movie. But I can tell you now that I made the right choice. The movie is stunning in every sense of the word. It's a visual feast. The Na'vi, which didn't look realistic to me at all in the trailers, looked much better in 3D. The entire world that James Cameron has created here, everything in it looked very realistic. The Na'vi are probably the best CGI characters I have ever seen.

My husband and I absolutely loved it. The storyline was a cliche, but OMG on the visuals! Watched it in 3D and it was like nothing we've ever seen before. This one is cinema history.

I went to a matinee as well, and only paid $8 a ticket, including glasses. Movie prices in the evenings are horrendous.

As far as the 3d effects go, there were times I thought I would enjoy the movie a lot better if it was on blu-ray... just a HD screen and great sound would have been fine, although there was one scene when there were ashes gently raining down, and it looked like you could reach out and grab them. That was kinda cool.

Some of the scenery was just beautiful. Like the tree of souls, the little seeds that fell off the tree, etc.

As far as the storyline, although a lot of people said it was "predictable" I guess I just thought about it in terms of just the way some people are. They don't care about anyone or anything they don't understand - if they want something from them, and they can mow them down to get it, then all power to them. I imagine that if we all were connected to the earth like this race was, there would be such an unlimited supply of power and strength that you could get from the energy of earth, animals, etc.

I think you overpaid......Here in Folsom (Sacramento suburb) I paid $10.75 (including glasses) for a matinee.

I went by myself, the day it opened. The theater was mostly empty.

Really, its not the greatest film of all time, but its worth $11 for the 3-D effects.

I'm probably going to see the large-screen IMAX 3-D version, next week.
