Avatar 3d my review

Avatar 3d The Real mini scoop

Well I had the chance to take my wife out to see Avatar 3D tonight at the local Regal cinema.

12.50 a ticket, 9.00 to get in and 3.50 for the 3D glasses.

3D basically plays a trick on your brain and when they film it with a special camera it shoots for the left and right eye. The show starter out with some cool 3D teasers, once you quickly get passed the usual hollywood script, guy has problem (wheelchair ) guy gets recruited, guy gets treated like shit, guy finds girl, guys a hero in the end :)

I was kinda bored with the whole movie. Yes it has killer colors and the whole sci fi thing is cool. I had originally invited all the kids and that would of only made things worse. With 25 dollars in tickets and 23 for 1 popcorn and 2 drinks I think the movie was a total let down. I heard people raving about it on Facebook and twitter so I was totally excited. I did enjoy going. Tonight was a nice night and the place was very nice but with all the technology available they should of really brought an awesome 3D movie. I felt like they added a 3D effect every now and then to keep it moving. I also was GLAD that the main character was an unknown, it sucks sometimes to watch a well know actor and not think about them as a person.

My wife demanded I don’t write anything negative about the movie so if your like her and you love sci fi movies then don’t let me stop you from checking it out. But if your money is tight DON’T bother.

Did you see it ? Did you like it ? Am I crazy ? Are you going to see it anyway LOL :) thanks

Found the film visually aressting but overall it was quite a letdown esp since the narrative was cliche as hell.

date night usually cost more then you expect .. one way or another ;)

  3. madhollywood@Sketch of the Day says:

I am jealous that you got to see Avatar. My brother and I tried to go last night, but all the 3-D showings were sold out.

Your review isn’t much of an endorsement, but we’re going to try to see it again tonight. The art is obviously incredible and we’ll have to see how the sci-fi adventure story holds up. I do think the GROUNDBREAKING nature of the film seems a little overblown.

Anyway, Merry Christmas and you are totally rockin’ this new thesis theme.

My 3 brothers went to see Avatar last night, but it wasn’t the 3-D version. They enjoyed it but said it didn’t live up to it’s hype ;) It got an 8/10 from them.

    Hey Bro,
I saw the movie Sat night and like you I was kinda bored. I caught a late show and it felt really really long. Like you said, it had a lot of cool effects and imagery but it dragged a bit, especially the first hour or so.

  6. Movies says:

I have seen the making of the picture on TV and really something different than other movie. The technology of this movie is really amazing. Thank you for your review.

  7. Movie Critic & Reviews says:

I don’t love Sci-Fi and I can’t appreciate Startrek and Starwars. Maybe that was just me. I’d rather watch thousands of horror films and gore than watch a boring sci-fi movie because it makes me want to scream.

  8. 3d Movies says:

    Thank´s

I like this movie the quality of the 3D effects was amazing.
    12.50 a ticket – to much!

  9. George Serradinho says:

My son wants to go watch it and I had no idea of the movie until he told me, he sort of told me that I’m getting old, lol.

It has gotten lots of praise here in SA and it’s made me even more curious to go watch. If my son and I go watch, it will cost around R100 (+-$13 depending on exchange rate) for the tickets and a drink and popcorn each. Thats what it normally costs us to watch movies, but I guess it might be more as we need to get 3D glasses.

This is quite possible the least insightful view of Avatar on the entire internet. I’m intrigued by people who offer negative reviews — I’m interested in discovering where people think it went wrong.

But what exactly have you said about it? The ticket was too expensive? The story had a hero arc? Umm, yeah. That’s kinda what stories are all about.

Avatar is a fantastic film, a technological marvel with an entertaining story that has layers of complexity.

What a shame “reviews” like this dissuade people.

@Ugh: You could of left your link you didn’t have to be anonymous when disagreeing.
The point is they spent MILLIONS and produced a half ass movie that is FAR from cutting edge
The movie had no good emotional hook you would think a director of a film like Titanic would know how to rap u around his finger
also I DID NOT discourage anyone from seeing it I just said if your money is tight don’t bother :)
which is true right ? thanks for taking the time to write your comment I do appreciate it

I think you overpaid……Here in Folsom (Sacramento suburb) I paid $10.75 (including glasses) for a matinee.

I went by myself, the day it opened. The theater was mostly empty.

Really, its not the greatest film of all time, but its worth $11 for the 3-D effects.

I’m probably going to see the large-screen IMAX 3-D version, next week.

  12. Kikolani says:

I went to a matinee as well, and only paid $8 a ticket, including glasses. Movie prices in the evenings are horrendous.

As far as the 3d effects go, there were times I thought I would enjoy the movie a lot better if it was on blu-ray… just a HD screen and great sound would have been fine, although there was one scene when there were ashes gently raining down, and it looked like you could reach out and grab them. That was kinda cool.

Some of the scenery was just beautiful. Like the tree of souls, the little seeds that fell off the tree, etc.

As far as the storyline, although a lot of people said it was “predictable” I guess I just thought about it in terms of just the way some people are. They don’t care about anyone or anything they don’t understand – if they want something from them, and they can mow them down to get it, then all power to them. I imagine that if we all were connected to the earth like this race was, there would be such an unlimited supply of power and strength that you could get from the energy of earth, animals, etc.

  13. Anne says:

My husband and I absolutely loved it. The storyline was a cliche, but OMG on the visuals! Watched it in 3D and it was like nothing we’ve ever seen before. This one is cinema history.

  14. Watch Movies Online says:

“Avatar” was my first IMAX and IMAX 3D experience, and it was an experience I will never forget. I must admit, after watching the trailers, at times I was excited for the movie, at times I was skeptical. I was, at one point, in two minds about whether or not I really should go and see this movie. But I can tell you now that I made the right choice. The movie is stunning in every sense of the word. It’s a visual feast. The Na’vi, which didn’t look realistic to me at all in the trailers, looked much better in 3D. The entire world that James Cameron has created here, everything in it looked very realistic. The Na’vi are probably the best CGI characters I have ever seen.

  15. Alan says:

I haven’t seen the movie yet but i have to say that everyone i know that has seen it, has loved it. I actually had a message on my answering machine today from my father in law who lives in Arizona who has just seen it and he told me that i have to seen it. I was going to wait until it came out on blu-ray because i too am not much of a sci fi fan but i think i am going to have to go watch it at the theater.

  16. Javier@Nigerian Movies says:

until now I havent seen it…
I must confess that I am excited to see it.

Many movie reviews shows top about it.
    thanks a lot.

  17. Film Critic says:

I took my wife to see it December 29th .. with the inlaws. I was already psyched out to pay the $11.99 plus taxes for the 3D glasses each, overpriced popcorn and drinks, and even go out for dinner afterwards. I tried my hardest not to watch it for free online and wait for the movie theater, and despite all the reviews I read up to December 28th (ooooh it’s exactly like Dances With Wolves Script blah blah blah blah) I didn’t care. I wanted to see the 3D effect!

I’m glad I saw it in the theater and not on PPV or VOD or free off the internet. Honestly – I haven’t seen a movie in 3D since those funny paper glasses with red on one side and green on the other. WHAT A TREAT the way technology is and the glasses even fit over my own glasses. There was a few times I felt like reaching up and swatting away those Gnat’y little creatures hovering off the screen and when they filmed inside the buildings walking up and past furniture and tables was cool. The ‘oh let’s fly together in the wind’ scene was the worst, yet despite that – the scenery wasn’t too shabby doll – if you know what I mean.

I would have given a 4-1/2 rating with the 3D in the theatre, probably a 2-1/2 watching it with Russian subtitles online lol

  18. Movie reviews says:

I have to say that i loved this movie. Me, my wife and 2 kids went at 10am in the morning and it only cost $6 each with the 3D glasses. I would of paid full price for this movie. It was that good! And im not even a scfi person. I give it 4 stars.

  19. Avatar Movie Review says:

I have heard the story line is pretty weak, but the special effects more then make up for it. I have to see it in the theater before it’s too late.

  20. 3DTV Guy says:

Dang, this was the post I wanted to comment on half an hour ago before I got sidetracked reading the rest of your blog, lol. I loved Avatar. It was amazing. I’ll be going back to see it again, and can’t wait to watch it in 3D in my living room!

    Guy.
