Detroit is number one on the list of America’s most dangerous cities, with rate of 1,220 violent crimes committed per 100,000 people.
Sadly when you think of the topic many once great American cities come to mind. I personally know by the statistics that Rochester, New York is a very deadly place. The most dangerous city in America besides the obvious places like New Orleans and Detroit is where your at right now.
Yes society has so far departed from the norms of a civilized and decent society that we feed on the next whack job to come along and entertain us. I don’t feel quite as bad as a Dad if I get to sit there and judge that dick Jon Gosselin

The most dangerous city is if you don’t know your neighbors. When I was growing up I knew everyone and knew their business you couldn’t easily rob a house on my block.
The point is also that this topic is one that will get alot of search traffic so maybe I’m also wrong for exploiting violence for my own agenda. See we are all guilty and sadly I think it’s going to take America to take an honest look at herself and stop idolizing losers and making jerks rich
I really enjoyed watching CNN’s Heroes. I like to watch it by myself because I know I’m sure to cry and that’s ok. I really liked that water guy DOC and it’s a great show to bad they don’t have shows like that every week.
Do you feel scared where you live ? Has your car been broken into ? DO you know your neighbors ? Where do you think is the most violent place in America maybe I will go there and see what I can do.

If you don’t care about violence and just came by for some cool blogging tips. If you examine this post you will see the basics of a post that will bring traffic, have excellent serps, page rank and is stone cold pimping the Google BOT
thanks for stopping by

I have never been to Detroit, but it doesn’t surprise me too much. I know from reading and surfing around it is pretty dangerous. Not to mention all the abandoned buildings out there.
Where I live, it is basically safe, but there are also a number of bad neighborhoods where you wouldn’t want to end up stranded at night.

I never thought of my little town as dangerous until my house was broken into. Now I do not leave anything of value at the house when I leave.
The town is fairly safe as far as violence goes. Much safer than just about any big city.
Gun control is partly to blame for the violent crime rate. It is hard to imagine someone getting mugged when the crooks know their victim may be packing. Makes sense to me.
I live in Nottingham, England. It’s not the most dangerous city (London, Manchester or Liverpool are all way ahead in terms of gangs and crime) but it can be a bit rough in places.
Luckily, I live out in the sticks and don’t have much trouble. You’re right though, there is danger and violence and crime wherever you go and if you don’t know anybody in your street or village or town or city, and if you walk around with your head down, then bad things can happen.
Personally I make eye contact with most people and say hello, good morning etc to everyone I meet. Makes it harder for them to stab me if I’m at least being friendly and polite!!

It’s difficult to quantify “danger” Johannesburg, where I live in SA, had a murder rate of 1000 murders per 100 000 people at a stage in the early 2000′s.. the violent crime rate was obviously much much higher.. but because we all knew to be careful, developed relationships within the community, etc, the actual level of danger posed to certain individuals was rather minimal..
I think those most in danger of becoming victims are those who are the least aware and the least proactive.. make your personal environment safe, and secure, don’t depend solely on the law, the police to keep you safe.. they’ve got limits

I’ve said this before, our neck of the woods is probably one of the safest places to live in the US. The last burglary in our neighborhood was over 15 years ago! Probably the ONLY danger –as I see it—is that robberies have taken place on citizens with medical cannabis grows…..and the mexican drug cartels who grow on state lands nearby, could make it dangerous to walk around in the woods.
Hi John,
All I can say is that there’s really no violent city or place, just violent people making the place look bad.
It’s sad to think that there are bad neighborhoods as there are bad neighbors.

Crime is Sout Africa is also high and it’s a shame. I don’t really know my neighbors at all, I would say out of about 30 houses in my street, I’m lucky if I know 5 or more.
Many people keep to themselves and it’s sad, but I understand it in our society.

With the economy in the dumpster crime becomes a problem just about anywhere. I live near Detroit and with the high number of people out of work in Michigan you can see the desperation on the faces of people as you drive around. When people are out of work and with no prospects to help their families people can start to do things they would normally never think of doing. It leaves you a little scared is what it does.

You were really all over this topic especially your statement about how the tighter the community, the safer the community. I don’t know how our society got so far from this essential ethic, but we have.
It makes me think we have to form some crazy tight alliance in the blogosphere to stomp all the scammer, crooks, and generals a-holes.
Community my friend.

I don’t live in Detroit but I was a local truck driver there for almost nine years. It’s sad how the city has deteriorated but there are some pretty cool people there too. I’ve always enjoyed the city and have had little trouble in Detroit. I’m hoping they can keep getting rid of the crooks running the city (jailing politicians) and start cleaning up the streets. I have some pictures that look like war zones from as recent as last year. I still have hope for Detroit but it’s going to take years. Great point about knowing your neighbors John. That’s one of the things that separate a community and a neighborhood.

I think you are right about not knowing your neighbors. I also think that the media has a lot to do with how aware of crime we are, since all the morning headlines are about murders that have been committed that night.
I myself live in the country, and do know a few neighbors, but am not on a first name basis with many of them.
With the advent of the Internet, is seems like I am more likely to be holed up for the winter like a bug in a rug.

I listen that the results of CQ Press’s 16th annual crime city rankings are in. The report ranks 393 American cities in six different categories — murder, rape, burglary, robbery, aggravated assault and motor vehicle theft.

Hey John,
I live in an extremly dangerous city here in Brazil. Basically we can’t go out walking in the neighborhood we live only by car. Many people get shot. The only thing that keeps me sane is thinking about angels surrounding my kids.
In the last year on the street I live 6 friends of mine have been robbed at gunpoint. i hear gunshots and screams in the middle of the night. I just pray that I can leave this area soon. Even though I live on the 12th floor it’s just really shocking to be around such violence. I don’t watch news or violent movies because they will just make me cry.
Anyways I like your crush for the week
All the best,
Eren

You know, I feel uneasy whenever I’ve been away from the Internet for a few hours. D: I wonder how I’d fare a week without it.
In Las Vegas, Nev., for example, the housing boom created loads of excess inventory. When the market tanked, homeowners suddenly found themselves with properties worth far less than the mortgages they’d taken out. In the worst cases, banks foreclosed, leaving people without homes–and with more debt than they’d had to begin with. As a result, Sin City is even emptier than Detroit.
Detroit has trouble showing improvement in its crime rate because dedicated, desperately needed and appropriate resources are not invested in public safety. Painfully, it is not a priority,” says Wayne County Prosecuting Attorney Kym L. Worthy. “I wish that those with the resources would view domestic terrorism like they do terrorism across the water. It used to be that we were keeping our head above water and treading quickly. Now we are drowning, and no one seems to really care. All they tell me to do is cut some more.”

Funny that I’ve ended up on this post. I was looking for something completely different. But I’ll be sure to bookmark it.
You all should come and live in Farmville Virginia
. It’s nice and not dangerous at all. That proves your point that when you know your neighbours it improves safety. Cuz here in Farmville everybody knows eachother.
But believe me, it has its downsides
