Deposit the check and wait.

They will know the mistake when the poor dude that was supposed to get the big $$ goes screaming to customer service.

Tell them that you have people who take care of things like that and you’ll have someone contact them soon.

Then wait some more.

Then tell the IRS it’s not real money.

I agree with Dan. Keyword, you said it yourself, mistake. Now if you had just not known it was a mistake… may be a different story. Is it worth getting your site completely banned from Google for life, and potential criminal charges?

I guess the irony is… at least you know the check is good. Especially by posting it publicly, I guess if it was me, I would have cashed the check, not posted on a blog, put it on my off shore account and waited a month until the next check came. You could have at least said you thought you won some contest you entered online .

I wouldn’t cash it but that’s just me, besides they will figure it out eventually and if there is one company you don’t want to mess with online it is google.

This is tough… but I’ll say encash it, and keep it safe. If they will not notice their mistake, then you’re lucky.. But if they discover their mistake and ask you to return their money, no problem, as long as the money is still intact…

cash it and send me the money you IDIOT what are you NUTS.. oh sorry got carried away alittle bit.. you know if you cash it they will find out the mistake soon enough.. your luck they would find the mistake as soon as you spent the last penny. If they made this mistake with you I wonder how many other mistakes they have made that was not sent back to them..

it would just be something else that you are always looking over your shoulder for.. waiting for the other shoe to drop.. I would rather have piece of mind

Hmm.. Not easy.. What legal grounds do they have to stand on if I were to cash a check they sent me?
Honestly, I got no moral or ethical concerns about getting more free money out of a company with enough to go around, but I would worry about the possible consequences

The only way to make money (short term) is to invest in undervalued stocks, ones that have huge upside potential. There are a lot of turnaround companies to invest in right now.
