If someone anyone tried to tell me they cared about me and that they were someone who has spent so little time with me loved me so much I would scared.
I always thought I’d ruin you. I mean my lifestyle partying etc you didn’t need or deserve that,no one does.
Shannon my not being in your life on a more regular basis was MY FAULT, had nothing to do with you but the fact that I was not a good father to you was because I know you have my genes and your mother is one of my best friends and will always be, I love you Shannon…You’ll understand everything one day

Really touching John. Your daughter must know that you love her and hopefully she can accept you for both your strengths and your weaknesses. That is what unconditional love in families is all about and that she WILL surely understand in the course of life.

Its good you are reaching out to your daughter John. You know how kids are, they will come around. My daughter and I don’t always see eye to eye, and we have had our bad days as well as our good ones, and she lives right around the block from me. All you can be is the best you can possibly be, nothing more, nothing less. Take care.

The fact that you are reaching out like this. especially in a public forum where everybody knows you, should mean a lot. If nothing else, she will have this to ponder when she has time. You have made an important step and that is a lot sometimes. She will understand. Cause she loves you and that is a lot all the time.

Hi John I don’t know you and can see many people here do know you and seem to care about you. But I do have to wonder why you are posting this here and not going to see her in person?
Again I don’t know all the facts, but if one of the problems is that you were never there for her, because of your partying, then why not go and see her in person now, or in the least call her.
Think that would mean more to her then a blog posting. IMO

John — that was so beautiful. Brought tears to my eyes and I haven’t even had my coffee yet
I know what it’s like to want to give more than we are actually capable of giving. I’ve come to terms with my limits and do what I can for my kids. I had 3 tumors in my uterus and had them surgically removed. The meds that I took just left me bedfast for a long while. If you suffer from depression then this is also debilitating.
Don’t trap yourself into a guilt trip because that will only get you into more of a hole. Do the best you can with what you have and when you can do better , then you will.
Let it go my friend- trust me I KNOW what this feels like. I had depression for 5 weeks straight- the kind where I couldn’t even get out of bed. This happened after losing 8 loved ones in a time frame of 5 months. They were all close and it was just devastating.
