Who’s on your blogroll ?

blogroll love

I wanted to write a few things about some hot real estate on your blog that I think isn’t talked about enough. I will say that everything in this post is just my opinion as there are no real seo guru’s that know 100% for sure.

So I used to have three blogrolls actually the one for my friends, then one linking to php related sites and I had a Key West one. Now the BIGGEST mistake I see bloggers make is to have any blogrolled links to wordpress or their plugin page. One they have enough link juice and it makes you look unprofessional or that you have no friends.

My blogroll contains REAL people that I either admire or am friends with or BOTH that I have decided to pay them back or pay them some respect for the way they operate.

I have in the past removed people after months of not hearing from them, was that wrong YES, did I feel bad YES but did I still do it YES :)

So we have to balance people that support you and your site with people that may be above you in terms of blogging and ones that aren’t. I don’t link to Celebrity bloggers for a few reasons.

One I may not respect them and two they have enough traffic. Now no one is going to get mad traffic from this blog but I know from my own experience that I do look at people’s blogrolls and if I see something that catches my eye I’m going to  CLICK IT :)

Now should you add your friends site with their  sites name or their anchor text ?

Well basically that’s up to you and I always ask the person first what they want to use. I use their anchor text on the premise that since all these links are being followed Google may give it a little more LUV.

Who knows but I mainly put someone on my blogroll as a way of saying HEY I like YOU or I like the work your doing overthere. Sometimes I will add someone if I feel sorry for them LOL :) j/k

When I had a PR4 I could say if you had a new blog and I added you to my blogroll that you would have a PR3 next update but who knows now ? Google Page rank doesn’t have the chatter it used to because we used to all wait like crackheads for the results of their PR  updates.

Sometimes I think with all the links to this blog that I have should have a PR5 by now and know that I have squandered alot of link juice but to me people are more important then page rank.

Simply I used it as a TOOL to thank people :)

I see many people add well known people to their blogroll as if that is going to lend some credibility to their site IT DOESN’T. I do think it shows who you respect and for me that is the whole point it shows respect. I’m honored to be on some great blogrolls and one in particular I almost didn’t want to add their ‘s to this site because there was a rumor that if each blog linked to each other it would void any benefit. Well let’s forget about what Google does and use our blogroll as a badge of hey these people are the ones you should check out :)

That’s what I DO :)

So do you pay any attention to your blogroll ? Are you off to delete the link juice your wasting on your blogroll linking to wordpress still :) I do love wordpress and all their sites but I’m sure they will survive without me.

Do you leave links on there when you haven’t heard from the person since Clinton was President :) I was thinking to do a post called NOW that you got your links now what ? Because yes some people are here for one thing and that’s cool :) but for me I will keep linking to bloggers I like and I will keep having the best bloggers in the world  on my blogroll :)

thanks

Please note there are sites on the blogroll that I own and may not be using right now :)

I don’t see anything wrong with spreading juice to yourself :)

I’ve never really thought about blogrolls that much and even less about having one on my blog. I do think a great blogroll would be full of links to people you actually know, people you respect and to your friends.

It would be a waste just to link to blogs like johnchow or problogger in my view, not because it’s wrong but because it doesn’t benefit anybody, new bloggers won’t get found that way, they don’t need more PR, they won’t thank you but your friends might if you link to them.

Im definitely going to think about having a blogroll, a valuable one.

I’m in the same boat as Blaine. But a little different because I would rather link to sites that are like mine. So if my readers were to click the blog roll link they would find more relative and interesting topics.

Right now my blogroll at seomkt is stuffed like a baked potato and is all over the place.

Actually my blog roll is exactly what Blaine thinks it should be lol friends and other bloggers. A few are to people that helped me out supported my cause hardcore.

I think my Blogroll has lost it’s way over the last few months, I must update it, I never really consider doing much with the blogroll…

Time is spent posting on my blog, replying to comments, reading and commenting on other blogs that I seem to forget about the humble little blogroll, but now more, I shall try to remember to keep it updated.

Now what was I going to do, something about bog roll …..

  4. I check out blogrolls on blogs I like just like the commenters. Following those links is the way I found most of my online friends. It stands to reason if I like a blog or blogger there’s a good chance I’m going to like those that they freely link to.

My blogroll got so long I had to give it a special page. I have removed a couple people from there too. No one goes on there that I don’t consider a friend and I visit their site. It’s funny you mentioned celebrity bloggers because that’s one of my next post topics.

By the way John, I am honored to be on your blogroll :)

I don’t have a blogroll….yet? I’m still early in my “formative year” :) of making new friends and learning what’s what. I was glad to see this post though, because I’ve been curious about blogrolls and whether I would keep mine maintained.

I also consider blogroll as a way to thank the people. Glad to know that you dont care about PR much. I usually reject the request if the blogger is new as I doubt that they might stop blogging (but this is not the case always).
