If you think that I’m going to waste so many hours on the internet and think up a bunch of corny ass shit to write so I can have google send me a check every once in a while then I’m sorry that is not my agenda. I took a brake from blogging for a few days and I needed to step back and keep focused on what I’m really doing.
I was watching a video earlier with Kevin Rose where he explained a little about how it was when he started digg and why right now is such a great time to bring the next wave of A list sites.
I always liked Kevin but I don’t use digg much at all and I always thought the whole community was about as engaging as reddit which means it’s like walking through a cemetery. Check out some of the ideas that Kevin mentions about GETTING BUSY NOW
I have been in talks with a very cool guy about his site. He has some very cool features but it’s going to take more then that to get into the top 100 or even 10 on Alexa. Once you have a site with that many visitors your basically rich and everyone starts sucking your d*ck . You can even be as ugly and stupid as BIZ Stone or as slick as John Chow people won’t care. But like some Howard Hughes character I don’t want to be in some picture with Chris Pirillo or some other Net Guru.
I’m looking bank and that is the bottom line. Sure I love my little blog and all the cool people that stop by. This blog has saved me from getting in trouble a million times.
But if you think your going to get rich off your blog you better look to invest in what I’m doing because even a blog like Dooce.com that makes Heather Armstrong 40 k a month is not going to make you rich.
Whenever shit is down the big shots will fall and the new blood comes to take their place.

Blogging is fun, addicting and can even be sexy if my avatar is displayed
but it’s not the ideal vehicle for making money. Sure there are exceptions but for the most part blogs are just a great social tool as well as a nice place to learn the ropes.

I think there’s a lot of truth is what you’re saying. I feel like the best place for me to be with my 3 blogs is to be able to write about the way I see things while optimizing it as much as I can so I can make a little money. That’s it. i don’t do it for friends though a few good ones have sprung from it. The great thing for me right now is I feel I have everything in a good place so I can just let the words flow out. If that becomes a bigger revenue stream through time, I won’t complain. Having said that, I am in it for the sharing and the influence. Adsense etc. is just a by-product of content that hopefully keeps people coming back.

I’ve always enjoyed Kevin rose, I remember watching him way back in the days of The Screen Savers =D. When i watched the video you posted here by Kevin, it definitely struck out to me that the key was that he brought out something new before most anyone else did, and it was that innovation that allowed him to get such a big jump on the competition.

As for Kevin Rose he is a cool guy. His girlfriend “Miss Digg” is a pure whore. So am not really friend with him as the wife as if hates to see me or my site.

I don’t do much blogging unless I have something to say. I feel there is more money to be made in owning a social network than blogging unless you really have loads of stuff to blog about or a certain niche. It’s so easy to run out of topics to blog about and sometimes the motivation just isn’t there. So what do I do? I have a nice cold beer and forget about it.
