I got your password

seobanner 500x121 I got your password

Today I was thinking about how secure all my information, sites actually are and I have to be honest and say if you had my one password the same lame one I have been using for years you could cause me some serious problems.

You could  log into this blog, go to my bank acct and open my gmail etc etc. What else but laziness keeps us using  something that can so easily be obtained. Yes I can get your password and you’d be surprised to learn just how easy it really is.

Over on Frank’s  network secrurity blog he is constantly updating people on the millions of various threats on the internet. Do you think I pay attention and take it serious ?

No and that is the point. Yes if someone HACKED my blog I know how to remedy that and I can always call the bank etc but why take a chance  when there are literally thousands of poor smart people looking constantly  to break into your stuff.

Do you take your password serious ? Do you have any apps or programs to suggest ?

Worse yet have you been HACKED  ?  :)   Thanks hope everyone had an awesome weekend :)

Yup, you called it correctly, you just said OUTLOUD what everybody does/ is doing.

I change my password(s) when I stop doing collaboration with a client…

Note to self: make yourself follow through and get some kind of “non disclosure agreement”, “agreement to not compete for x length of time” legal document – even if I have to pay a lawyer to do it

I often tell a client too much about how I do the local SEO that I do, more than one client saved all my emails detailing the local SEO strategy and took my intellectual property off to a web designer in an effort to ‘get something for nothing’

passwords?
yeah, we all gotta be more careful, and back up our work to an external hard drive too

I came here hoping to read about someone got your password and hacked your blog or something. Haha, silly me. Your title is catchy. At least, I learn about a new blog – TechJaws. I don’t really have the same password for everything, not especially bank accounts.

My blog was hacked more than a month ago surprisingly and it was a challenge to my tech blogging streak if I wasn’t able to surpass the ordeal. It was a great learning experience that I want to share for every blogger’s benefit. Below was the link to my post about it.

I guess most of us use the same password all the time. I thoery you should have a different one for everything, but that’s just not realistic. You need so many these days that you’d never remember them all. I generally use the same one but vary it for really important things.

Most sites these days won’t allow you to use too easy passwords. Often it’s 8 characters minimum and some numbers in it.

I always try to use many passwords (The best way is to have another password for every account) as I surf internet in search for information, money or fun. Having same password everywhere is dangerous for reasons you said before. But having many passwords mean that you can be lost in your own maze of accounts, passwords, logins and sites. It is not easy to find the golden way of walking straight. I think that writing passwords on paper is good idea (if you live alone and if you are sure that you can trust people who do you live with).

Well safely I can say I have never been hacked with my password

One time my server was hacked. They added a new index.html file and had code saying this site was hacked by blah blah

They were nice hackers because they renamed my original index file so Is till had it!

kind of funny huh

My online accounts have different pw, depending on the sensitivity of the information at a particular site. The ones that are more critical, have a higher degree of invulnerability (letters + numbers).

Digital identity theft, content theft, now password theft.. Keeping track of password for various sites could be laborious but what choice do we have?^^ I believe we all treat password seriously. I’ve got a friend who uses password-memory application to store his details, but I’m still a little skeptic with that. And hopefully, never have to complain here about been hacked. It’s a good thing you alert us all about internet security. Thanks, John.

I try and change my passwords every three months. I know it sounds paranoid but I have been told that is still not often enough.
Also for those with self-hosted wordpress blogs ditching the admin password for one that you choose is a excellent idea. When they already know your username it makes getting the pass and getting in even easier.

Yeah .. it sounds easy .. if you get hacked
“I’ll just call my bank and … ”
“I’ll call my credit card companies and …”

Although I don’t want to go into too many details how someone figured out one of my passwords on one of my older domains this month (mental note: do not use “PassWord” as a password) But between July 2 and July 19 we were having a hell of a time trying to figure out how come I’m on Bank of America’s Top 10 Phishing Sites .. as well as the Department of Finance in Australia … Someone broke into my account with some keylogger? (guess, not confirmed) and got my FTP password and was uploading malicious stuff on on my domains. I was getting anti-crime emails, shut down notices, FBI notices, and they were daily. We thought it was a hack, backdoor, loose permission, mod rewrite issues, and all the ‘usual’ things when it probably was a simple reason – someone got my password.

One of the things that got me ‘cool’ about this is realizing that even if you want one password for everything – click that randomize button you always see and never click on and use that on everything – and just paste a stickup to your wall above your computer. Keep a different password for the email – in case you forget you can always get it back.

I have a variety of passwords I use… some crap ones that I use on sites that I don’t feel are secure, up to some fully safe ones that I only use for anything to do with finances or sensitive information. Because you never know if you’re going to get phished, and if you do, you don’t want everything exposed.

I don’t have the same password for more than one place, but don’t change them too often, unless I happen to forget one, then I’ll change it. I also have some pneumonics that help to remember them.

I use to change my passwords now and then until my site got hacked and the hacker made trouble and Google banned my site. Now I change my password every week or so and do that with all my sites/affiliate programs and emails. This has been working as I have not been hacked again.

I’ve had my FTP password to my blog hacked recently and it’s given me huge problems. Fortunately I had the wordpress database backed up but random pages through the site were changed with iframe scripts and re-installing the whole site was the only real solution. Anyone out there not using a secure form of FTP should do so now!

My wife hates it when I set up an account for her as I use long passwords filled with letters numbers and symbols. I do seem to have to make use of the “forgot password” features on some sites as I have trouble keeping them all straight at times.

This is the precise reason why my password is different for very single place I go on the internet. Yes it’s a huge time suck to search for each password when browsing but better safe than sorry that’s for sure.
I change my password even for forums too. So yes it’s a huge headache.
I’m thinking of using roboform to make life a bit easier.
All the best,
Eren

The password you’re using, if you’re not too careful, could be hacked easily. This could be very detrimental. How can you remedy this? Is it necessary to to have different passwords for your accounts? What if you have forgotten it?
