Ok we know a little bit about everything now. We can handle the backend of wordpress and learning how to get better results from adsense and google search. Now what ?
Sometime this weekend this blog will fall in the 40k’s on Alexa. Sadly we often don’t acknowledge our successes and just plow ahead but where are we going ? Who are we trying to reach ?
I wanted to share a few thoughts on how I plan to expand the reach of this blog. My goals are to write more about the news and some highly searched topics. I have considered myself sort of an underground bloggers site but as more people come to this site what am I going to do to keep them coming and hopefully coming back.
I could easily dominate the whole marijuana scene and originally I was going to write about the legalization of marijuana. But to be honest that gets old fast although smoking it doesn’t 
I like writing to bloggers but is there enough traffic ? Are the keywords good enough to make some decent money from adsense instead of crap or worse yet nothing ?
So there’s alot to think about. It’s all about strategy and timing. I’m fortunate that I have all the time in the world. But there is a method to my madness.
I want to add some basic goals I have for this blog by Christmas.
Alexa around 35 K
Page Rank of 5 I don’t know what’s up with Google really. They take care of me excellently in the search but then want to dis me on the PR. Maybe it’s my own fault for not building links like I should ? I also want to make 100 a day from adsense if not more.
So what are your goals?
Where are you at now and NAME them to claim them,writing down your goals is a powerful way to challenge yourself. Goals are easy when you define where it is you want to go. So where are you going ?

Wow! I’d LOVE to see you get $100 a day from Adsense, but I’m not sure that’s possible with a single blog. My best day ever was $15-bucks and that was when I was lucky enough to be #1 on Google for the number-one searched term for that day (according to Google Trends) and it was a Pharmaceutical.
I’m sure google would raise the ppc for a blog with more consistent traffic, but $100 a day seems like a tough thing to shoot for as an average (but, stranger things have happened–as you already know, my blog was featured on CNN! LOL)
My goals are to at least get to where I was last November: 69k Alexa, PR4, etc. I think I can do it, and, except maybe for the Adsense goal, I’m POSSITIVE you can reach your goals.

That’s not entirely true, there are big big sites that make that kind of cash on adsense alone like plentyoffish (not a blog), and most aol blogs which run google like popwallet.
Although just for fun I will concede that my adsense won’t be from one blog
and not from adsense and not from this blog.
BUT I don’t even need google’s money I currently make 70-300 a day right now
everyday of the month and Sundays
But I know if I targeted the right keywords it can be done easy. I just haven’t bothered but that is going to change.
Mass traffic plus clicks = BIG dollars

Good stuff John and you are soooo write about goals, when you write them down they become real.. I can really relate with your post about the direction of your blog. I am approaching the 40k alexa rank too and seeing a decent amount of traffic. I am trying to decide if I should broaden my focus or tighten up my focus. It is a tough call but like you know, the blogging niche pays crap from adsense. At this point, I am just trying to write consistently and network with great bloggers and hopefully keep pulling in the traffic. As far as hard goals, I want to get under 25k alexa by the end of the year. I also want to crack the 100 adsense barrier. I want to be in the $1,000 range overall per month on my Tycoon Blogger blog and then I will decide where to go from there.

Every month I would set up “blogging goals” like what my target subscriber, technorati rank, alexa rank and so on would be. It had helped me a lot to work hard.. really hard!

Its great to have goals….but that PR goal may never be attainable! And who cares, if you have SERP and traffic. If it was me, I’d be happy with the $100 per day from PPC click-thrus….now THAT is a really awesome statistic to aspire for!
My blogging goals seem to change a lot. Prior to Christmas, I would like to sell one of my sites for 10,ooo+, be it Pixelheadonline or all-travel-sites, I don’t really care.
I think the travel site probably has a better shot of being sold for a decent profit since it has the potential to focus on a pretty lucrative niche.
That being said, perhaps I should make my blogging goal to become the number 1 Travel SEO Blogger.

I think I’d like to hit the 50,000-75,000 for my Alexa Rank within the next 3 or so months.
As for PR, I’m trying to shoot for a PR4 (currently PR2).
Income wise — tough say. I know making money with Adsense is difficult. I will try to sell advertising space eventually, and I think that could bring in a fair bit of money.
How in god’s name are you making $70 – $300!? Amazing!

Realistic goal surely is the clue. For everyone it could be different, but lets face it: everyone want to have the biggest traffic possible. Some people want the biggest amount of people to see their posts and read their thoughts. Some people want to earn as much money as they can. I don’t believe that someone who puts his time and strengths to make the blog the most attractive doesn’t care about the traffic. So the realistic goal for everyone is: to get the biggest traffic possible. And that possible traffic could be different for anyone.

True we should set a goal for our success. After that We should draw plan how we will reach the goal. For example, I want to push my Alexa ranking to below 300k, I should let crawler to index more of my contents. Therefore, link is needed.

If you want your blog to come in top of Google rankings then definitely you need to serious planning. You need to do proper planning of how can get to top with what exact measures. I am sure that if your go through serious planning with work according to it then definitely you will get the desired ranking .
My goals are ok, not to high and not to low. I would like a PR of 5 by the end of this year and maybe a Alexa rank of below 100k. They are all attainable as my Pr is already 4 and I’m hitting just under 100k on Alexa.
As for income, I don’t make hundreds or thousands at this stage. Last time I checked, I was making around $10-$20 from Adsense a month which is not high at all. I have made extra cash from direct advertising and that has helped a lot.
It’s funny to see what others want and are getting, I need to be working harder now to stand next to some of your commentators.

It’s good to set realistic goal for blog. I think you need lots of hard work and traffic for earning $ 100 daily from adsense, and reaching alexa rank at 40k. my goal is to write more and more informative blog post and to gain pr 2 for that there is some home work required from my side i.e. analyzing current hot trend in my niche for writing blog post.
Thanks for the info- it turns out Microsoft’s bing really is making an impact, it seems to me your blog is getting a lot of search engine traffic from bing- have you found this to be the case?
