Wordpress common php mysql error fixes

Error 500

This post Brought to you BY These are applicable to many php erors and error 500 common on 1and1.com. They also work when your server sets  their memory limits to low.  I could probably write a thesis on the fixes and benefits but let’s get right to the simplicity. For the memory fix just make a file called php.ini

add the next line to it and save

memory=20MB

That’s it then upload that to the root of your site. Some people say add it to wp-admin some say this and that I say just add it to the domain’s folder :)

The next one has to do with php4 and 5 and all that other mumbo jumbo that happens from upgrading wordpress or changes on your server or WHATEVER. This will also  prevent getting locked out from your site and trying to pick your way back in :) These fixes are not important until you need them then you will have to search for them so why not just add them right now and be up to date :)

This one make a file called htaccess

add these lines

RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] AddType x-mapp-php5 .php AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php # END WordPress

Now just  upload or rewrite the file  but what I like to do and has saved me MANY times is I rename the original file that is up there already,  usually adding just one character like a 1 :) then I upload the new one so if something funky happens I can just delete that and go back to the one I  renamed  :) All simple stuff unless your in the middle of your site being down or some other crisis. These will avoid that. I had them added to this site a while back when I had problems then I had them on hand to add to another wordpress installation that was giving me errors. Once I added them I knew the problem was solved hope they help. Have any cool snippets of code that people can use ? Share it thanks Thanks for stopping BY . I need to have a podcast I think of so many things to say then I go and write some lame post like that :)

ok I’m messed up or something but I’m sure this website looked different the last time I visited which was seconds ago… but now it’s back to normal.

For the record you might be bored with the current one but I think it’s a lot better than the one you tried using.

I never had this issue before but again I never used 1and1 either. Right now I’m with godaddy!

The only thing I fully understood in there were the words “mumbo-jumbo.”

Great article again, John!

Thanks for the information. I couldn’t figure out the what heck was going on with the error 500 message at 1and1.com. Your solution was just that…..a solution…and a simple one at that. We’re now in the process of adding the file to the other shared hosting packages we have with the same host mentioned above.

Thanks again and keep up the great work.

Cheers,
JB

Errors a common. Noting can be perfect and almost all things in the world has a error in it. It is good to know that you have shown up the errors so that we can look for an alternative .

Yeah there are many fixes in 2.8.2 version, also if you want to change the size of memory, following is method

(’WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘64M’);

you have to make change in your wp-config file. you can change dynamically, but default is 32mb, there were also many problems with database connectivity, hence many of them were started to use Oracle as a database, but since now bugs are fixed, i m sure they will return to SQL Server, well god knows what is with Javascript,Ajax,Rails, huh, lets see…lol

This isn’t just true on one on one hosting, I have had numerous php memory leaks with FastCGI and php5.cgi processes on my dreamhost blogs for months, causing 500 errors and outages. I finally convinced my hosting provider to convert me to using mod_php in apache instead of PHP as a CGI and now my blog performance is improved by 60% with double my free ram. They will only grant mod_php if you have a Virtual Private Hosting plan, most hosting providers won’t offer this option if you have shared hosting, because this buries the PHP process inside the apache owner and means you could affect other users if PHP goes wild though.
