Mixx.com goes out like a sucker

Oh snap

About a year ago I joined the Mixx it was a really cool do follow site. The staff seemed nice and it was a great site. Recently I was alerted to BOYCOTT the site because they recently switched all the links that people submitted to NO FOLLOW. Of course like shitty ass Blogcatalog they kept their own links followed and put people on the burn. The same People who made that site were used then when the site HIT IT BIG they showed what they are really about.

This is a common occurrence on the internet. Lame site owners  take for granted the people that come to their site. A few months ago Mixx started pushing their members to review and rate their creative ads. I know people need to make money and I had no problem helping them out.

But when your site exist to benefit you and your pockets only then why should people continue to help send you content and your the only one to benefit. Man fuck people like that.

I also was thinking recently that all of my friends blogs are do follow so maybe I will just focus on them and not bother to visit or comment on blogs that are no follow. It irks me when I read a blog where  the owner actually details that they go and comment on do follow blogs and the reason they don’t make theirs do follow is because they are so smart- they SUCK :) They are stingy self  centered  losers in all reality. If you can’t help someone out then to me your a loser. I don’t care how much money you have.I don’t care how valuable you think what you have to say is. I think in the long run these  people will suffer. I have seen it over and over. Today you may be a big shot and it’s all about YOU. But in the end  when people wise up  they will leave your worthless ass site.

On blogcatalog they said right on the front  homepage that-

“Whether you are looking to search blogs, connect with bloggers, learn more about blogging, or promote your own blog, BlogCatalog is for you.”

This is an outright LIE. You can not promote your own blog. If you drop a link to your blog it will be deleted. Now that’s really lame deleting links that aren’t followed anyway. This is just like their lame ass toolbar they don’t want you to visit any blogs and leave their lame ass site, sadly.

If you bring up a blogging topic you will be disrupted by a few lame ass people on there that DON’T let you get your groove on. The site is totally worthless I don’t even know why people bother going on there. The only people that benefit from the site are the owners.

Today they have a fake campaign to support Iran well I have invited the owner to join in an effort to help the children of San Antonio where Blogcatalog and I’m located. NO interest.I was speaking with a friend of mine from New York about it. He told me that Jews only help other Jews. I don’t believe that myself but I have seen this before.

People are just as fake on the internet as they are in real life. I don’t sweat anyone because of who they think they are.

So if you value your content and time why bother to help these sites. They need us we don’t need them. This also happen with furl. I really liked that site and they sold out to DIIGO which basically BOUGHT all the page rank and redirected it to their site. I checked out their site and haven’t been back since. They switched all the do follow links to no follow. When these sites do this they have no concern about you or  your page rank, so who needs these people? I don’t..

John,

I had no idea that Mixx went to a nofollow. I guess when their pockets started to get full, they thought it was all about them and not there members.

I knew Blogcatalog was strict on blog promotion and this is why I have stayed a way from this network.

With the new thing about nofollow being thrown out for pagerank sculpting, does it really even matter that they did that? And even nofollow links still count for Yahoo backlinks, which can be an impressive stat to throw out to others.

It absolutely matters. I know all about what Matt Cutts and the reported SEO community said about no follow page sculpting.
What matters is Mixx sculpted everyone but themselves OOUT of page rank so do follow matters MORE now not less ;)
No follow and Yahoo to me are basically worthless.Yahoo messenger is ok but other than that and yahoo video they dont have much in my book :)

I believe the most votes I ever received on one MIXX item was .. in the mid-50′s. I recall when I looked at the time, I received 16 visitors from Mixx in my analytics. Unfortunately, like Digg requests .. my gmail sorts all Mixx requests directly to spam.

Sites are bought and sites are sold………c’mon John, if someone offered you $200,000 for this site, would you take it?

Be honest!

I would take 2 g’s for this site. This blog holds me BACK in all reality.
I would of had a much larger reach using http://bloganese.com and made all nice nice with
all the fake ass think their somebody bloggers. But since I do love marijuana and this blog is filled
with many ups and downs in my life. Also so many awesome people have commented it’s hard to let go and use the other site as my main base. I don’t like many of those lame ass bloggers anyway and love my little bizzare spot here on the web.

Fuck Mixx and all the lame ass bleeding heart liberals there who think they can support Iran and the VOTE, and then steal all your years of votes with “no follow”.

I am preparing a social bookmarking users bill of rights and refuse to post at any SB site until they agree in the TOS that they will support “do follow”

What Chris did was sneaky and low class and I have zero respect for him and his worthless Admin pal Kerry. They all suck and are screwed. Notice how they are blaming Google after they lied and said it was really complaints about spam from prized users that caused the new “no follow policy” http://www.mixx.com/stories/5931716/twitition_mixx_should_remove_the_nofollow_tag_from_links_to_popular_stories.

Mixx held itself out to be a “do follow” site. Matt Cutts has said on more than one occasion that one of the best ways to get dofollow links was to social bookmark.

So this new excuse that Google made then do it is utter bullshit. Now a bunch of lames asses who more than likely are paid off by Mixx, are trying to spin it that if you want “do follow” you must be a spammer. Mixx was always do follow. So the spin is just that, SPIN. No excuse for the lies and immoral behavior.

Anyways, when they see Mixx get boycotted they will be broke too. I think the LA Times and others who link to Mixx should make all their links”no follow” What do you think? After all, aren’t theyjust concerned about traffic and link juice? (SPAMMERS!!!)

I hate fucking people like that .Those are the same ones that claim what they post or submit is solid content and yours is spam and they are not trolls. Blogcatalog is infeasted with people like that. If the owner said shit smelled good you would see a few idiots on there agree with him. They usually don’t mention how they are fucking people in terms of links and blog promotion because silence keeps people stupid. But I have seen people who suck up weigh in and suck up to admins knowing what they are endorsing is straight up Bullshit it’s almost funny. But quite rampant and sadly all over.
For example if you throw one of these Buddah all positive quotes from some dead mother fucker all kinds of fucking goofs pipe in Excellent YES and all that.
But if you ask people some straight up stuff like reality. You wont hear a word.
Anyway I’m so glad I have a constant flow of REAL people and friends that come by here and I’m very grateful for that :)
Hey Lawyer let’s me and you start a social network ? One that really benefits bloggers? thanks for sparking a good point that people should know about thanks

folkd is a little whacky Plus people can spam msg you and their sidebar needs work
Now searchles is an excellent do follow site let me go check real fast to see if they didn’t do a bait and switch :( )
anyway I promoted them a few times I spoke with the owner who is in DC and then after a while when I did it again they could care less.
People may not realize that I see everyone person that comes on this site. I don’t mean to be a drama Queen but if I go out of my way and write a whole post about you and you can’t say anything and just come by and think you got it coming and I don’t heard anything back I will probably just move on. I guess I’m overly sensitive when it comes to the two words even one Thanks.
Oh and the owners name is also Chris but he is cool. I checked out the site it is still do follow and actually they have many cool features. There alexa can use some help :) They are only PR5 but the site is like a year old
here is the owners spot
http://searchles.com/people/show/chris
here’s my two spots I guess your submissions wear out because I know I had some submissions back a few months ago ?
but they do have alot of cool stuff.

Next there is that butt plug over there trashing extreme john. They are, as usual, ignoring the fact that extreme john, as well as me, USED to use a “do follow” Mixx submission tool on our blog posts, that MIXX sucked link juice from.

Hey John,
Before Mike calls “Bullshit” on me or anyone else for that matter, please let me speak my piece.
I have followed your blog for a while. It is actually quite good. I have also followed Tessa Tips (She commented above).
Let me get something out of the way:
1. I do not work for Mixx or have every received any type of compensation from them, monetarily, or favorativly. (if that’s even a word).
I am a Power User of the site and have been for a long time. Reason being, Digg pulled some BS a long time ago, shutting down Power Users and Top Diggers as well as blocking submissions from blogs, or sites for no reason. I moved to Mixx and found the community to be better.
There are a lot of people in the above comments that I respect both them and their opinion, including yours my friend.
So let me sum up the events that caused the Mixx crew to do what they did and possibly shed some light on the problem.
Months ago Mixx community members saw a rise in Spam from really crappy blogs. Now I am not saying blogs are bad at all. I am a blogger. What was happening was a group of spammers were starting up blogspot blogs with domains like all-hot-celeb-fashions.blogspot.com, stealing photos that were not licensed under creative commons, loading the blogs with ads, not providing any insight at all on their post, not link to the original source they stole from, had a voting ring formed, and submitting that garbage and promoting it to the front page.
It got way out of control. The comments were terrible and you could tell by the submitter and by the comments that the issue was coming from India and Asia.
Now if I were someone thinking of stopping by Mixx, and saw the garbage that was making the front page, why would I stay?
The same scenario happened last year and early 2009 with a crew dubbed the “Phun” bloggers. The Phun or “Fun” bloggers did exactly the same thing but they would steal content from over a year ago and post it as their own.
People also kept blind voting up this garbage.
When Mixx first launched my friend Brian started a user generated forum called Mixxingbowl.com. The Mixx crew got valuable community feedback and embraced the idea of a privatley owned forum being created that Mixx had no control over. It is still there and Mixx still has no control over it. The problem is that even with 300 members, not to many people knew about it.
In that forum the Mixx crew listened to user feed back. They still do.
http://mixxingbowl.com/forums

If you go the the above posted link and look in the Mixx focus thread you will see a variety of issues brought up by the community. I strongly urge you to go have a look and you can see where the events unfolded. If you really want your side of the story heard in a public forum where the Mixx crew will listen please, be my guest. I am an admin on the site and I will do my best to make our concerns heard and weighed.
I believe Mixx should be a do_follow site. But I only believe it should allow do_follow links from Super Mixxers as spammers might come in and abuse that privilege.
Think about it, would you trust a do_follow link from a trusted member of the community, or some no-name that could send you to an attack or spam site?
I strongly believe in bloggers rights, I also understand and sympathize with your side of the story. If there is anything I can do as a long standing community member of Mixx.com to get the ball rolling in the right direction I will do it. My email was required to leave a comment, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Take Care,
Jay

I’m sure both Chris Mc Gill and Kerry are good people.
You have some valid points.
I don’t like or use Sphinn because its like you said super duper people that control what gets seen etc
Just like any site they should hire someone that specifically goes around deleting spam and spammers.
Sites take maintaining I like the site and all the coding in Rails was impressive I watched the site from basically when it came on the scene.
I never like to go around stirring the POT but sometimes you have to rattle people to let them know they were wrong to change links
How do you think people would feel if I just deactivated the do follow plugin and said thanks PEOPLE :)
They’re pretty smart over there they will figure it out .
Thanks for stopping by I do appreciate it :)

No problem man. The whole subject is a very touchy one, believe me they take this issue very serious. The whole thing about Mixx is to share relative content in relative circles. With all the spamming that had been going on lately, they had to take some steps. I am sure they take everything that everyone is seeing very seriously and are going to take steps to fix it. Please if you have any other concerns drop by Mixxingbowl forums, sign up and blast away. If there is anything I can help with do not hesitate to let me know.

One thing though, Kerry said that they turned off “do follow” due to a penalty from Google for duplicate content issues, AFTER she said it was really due to spammers but didn’t think it was an issue that should be discussed publicly.

So what is the real story Silent? In my opinion that is equivalent to a dishonest lie and that is why I am so upset over that. I like Mixx and think it is the best SB site out there bar none. So when I see it go the way of other bait and switch sites, I get pissed.

And if you think turning off “do follow” will end spamming, or even reduce it are you joking?

Well Mike I do my best to see both sides. A good assault can never be done without good Intel. To this day I do my best when on a campagin to follow a S.M.E.A.C. order.
No I don’t think turning off do_follow was a good idea. At the same time I don’t run the site. I think it was meant as a deterrent. However the Mixx crew is only human and does make mistakes. They have seen that this was not the best option and are looking for ways to satisfy it’s users.
A few of us recommended turn on do_follow for Super Mixxers. I personally think that would be their best option. Super Mixxers are upstanding community members and could be trusted more. Besides, how much would you trust a do_follow link from someone you have never heard of? My issue would be the link could lead to an attack site.
I am not saying all do_follow links are like that, but, with Super Mixxers having those abilities abuse and attacks would be less likely to happen. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I did not know Mixx went with a no-follow. If they did, they did the same thing yahoo groups did. I worked very hard to build my yahoo groups for the purpose of creating great communities because I was able to do a little SEO too. Now I do not use their system at all.

Update from Mixx Admin Kerry:

“Hello All
As promised, we reviewed the feedback we received on no follow, and will be making a change to the site based on that feedback.

In our next update (timing TBD), we will turn on do-follow for all Super Mixxer endorsed sites and all Super Mixxers submissions. All SuperMixxers and Power Mixxers will receive do follows on the links on their profile pages.

We feel this provides a nice balance between spam prevention and rewarding those mixxers who are giving the most time and effort to make Mixx a better place.

Please feel free to ping me with questions.”

I don’t get it. I’m not a “SuperMixxer” or “PowerMixer” so I presume this means absolutely nothing to me.

Hey Hart,
All the more reason to become more active. The more active you are in the community the fast you will reach that status.

That’s reasonable and at least shows they are open to feedback
I know plenty of sites like BLOGCATALOG that don’t give a damn about there members
their links or sites..
Now I’m scared to see if my account wasn’t SMOKED :P

I dont think they will smoke your account dude. But Mixxers like cGt will probably single you out for downvotes.

That was a smart move. I still dislike Kerry and Chris, since they banned my account after a seven day time out, immediately after I logged back in on the seventh day, with no explanation. Then like an hour later I got an e mail my account was restored….NOT.

Violet and her buddies had a ban ring and went after anyone who openly supported traditional values. I think Kerry is a leftist and was looking for a reason to ban my old account.

But I have renewed respect for Chris as a business man. I want my old account back too, since it was banned in violation of their own TOS.

I deleted my blog catalog accounts for my blogs. They were out ranking me for my keywords it was retarded!

I deleted al three of my blogs and now I’m ranking better then them.

I joined Mix one day but never went back I simply had no time for them.

Thanks for informing. Realy it’s helped me so much because few days back I started one community in Mix and I invited all of my friend to join. If i had not come across your blog, I would have continue my community promotion. I can’t understand why they made link as nofollow and even some blogger. They can make it dofollow and help other..

They are allowing Super Mixxers ability to post do follow now. I really dont trust them though. They could just shut it off again. Whats the point of helping them get rich after they already went back to add no follow?

A friend has a tremendous amount of fun with Mixx still, and has eagerly promoted my work there.

Do I think more of Mixx should be dofollow? I really would like that. But I know they’re in a tough, tough spot, competing with Digg and Reddit (the latter being owned by Conde Nast, which runs Wired).

That having been said: generally speaking, a number of sites, as well as a number of other bloggers, could be far more generous.

A lot of comments. I skipped out on Mixx and BlogCatalogue. I focus my efforts where my small contribution is welcomed and rewarded.
