I was doing some research for a new advertising model to benefit bloggers.
How much would you charge for a 480×60 on the top right header for example. You get the set amount regardless of pageviews, clicks etc. The advertiser can drop you but you keep the money for that month.
The reason is that I think it’s always good to have a certain amount of money you can count on every month. For example say I can convince a site like http://websitemagazine.com to give you 100 a month. The only requirement is your under 100K on Alexa and you cant remove it for the agreed month.
What do you think ? DEAL OR NO DEAL ?
This isn’t no snob ass business model. There will be rates for blogs in other traffic sections such as 50 a month for blogs around 200k etc so don’t be hating ![]()
Also since this is America I will say that I do reserve the right to sell the space for any undisclosed amount and I get 25% of the blogger’s cut so in essence it’s 75 a month LOL.
What do you like or not like about this basic idea. Also before you start to think that your space is so exclusive let me just say this. 100×12 =1200 < that covers alot of the expenses of hosting etc or a month or two rent on your house. Plus you have to factor in that this is money you can count on not money you have to go fish for
NOW WHAT LOL

Very nice concepts and about the advertising format ,in fact i was unknown about the advertising process so i got to know the basic details about the advertising from your post & i want some more details about the advertising in a post as the new crows in advertsising!
I guess the catch would be, that if you don’t have a 100,000 or less Alexa and sell the ad space for $100 (less commission) and if you don’t have an Alexa of 200,000 or less and sell it for $50 .. what then? Does alexa of 300,000 bring $25? Alexa of 400,000 bring $12.50? That’s not much before commission, yet alone after commission. I hate being judged on Alexa or PR.
But – I know 100% its true that if a blogger doesn’t have to find the space, the commission is well worth it .. the greedy bloggers who think they can find advertisers themselves will make more money, but not have enough time to actually spend blogging – that advertisers will want advertise on. It’s a catch 22.

added thoughts // I think with any ad media option – the blogger should have the choice. If his/her alexa is under $100,000 and he/she wants $50 ad – that’s what it should be. The blogger will realize soon enough of it’s popularity that the price may be understated. If he/she wants a price of $300 per ad .. the blogger will also realize enough that it may be over priced, if nobody wants to advertise on the site. But – you never know.
I had to add how much I would hate to be locked into any specific price based on my PR or Alexa. I would rather have my blog sit blank for 6 months intead of downgrading prices to $50/mo .. when 1 month at $300 could recoup it all – and, future months make it ridiculously worth it.

I am rich!!! Alexa rank 45K, but only a few people look at this as a metric of substance. many SEO’s ignore Alexa at all cost. Maybe it’s because they are ranked poorly and they just don’t want to admit that they aren’t as savvy with SEO.
My 2 cents.

For simplicity’s sake let’s just look at it as money you know you will have.
Also when I would be negotiating I'm pitching the person, topics, content etc

Also there’s many sites way down in Alexa that ain’t worth shit for example BLOGCATALOG has an alexa of 380
not just Alexa that's just a measure of what the approximate value would be.
Of course I know blogs that GAME ALexa with cheap two second traffic and the advertiser would then loose out. The trick is to match an advertiser with a blog that will produce results. For example you can get 2.00 per sign up for websitemagazine as an affiliate. Well if they invest 100 a month for a banner on your site and get 3 sign ups I think that deal will last 1 month LOL
I also have ways to check it either side is Bullshitting

This would be something I would consider but as a South African I do have a problem with any kind of advertising. We cannot make use of PayPal and this normally does not encourage advertisers.

Also there’s a part of the equation I left out. Like Federated Media which charges crazy prices but they in turn promote the site with the implication that if the site is aligned with Federated Media then it MUST be some awesome site.< <
Anyway the ad is there but the site also gets promoted in various ways by the company itself. So you don't just get 100 bucks.

those clowns must be up to something
@Lyndi I would start with 250.00 a month for your site http://nice2all.com
and there’s ways to make sure you get your money.
I let my boy in S Africa use my paypal for a FEE of course < just kidding about the fee.
My SON has left me now that he is making MEGA money that dirty DOG LOL
He just sent me a landing page that was looking tight

Yeah, I am not so sure about using the Alexa as the exclusive metric, but hey my bro’s blog has an Alexa around 50K and if you can get him 100 bucks a month after your commission I would say that deal is done.
Alexa can be too easily gamed. I don’t even game Alexa and just because I have a ton of webmaster friends I believe the overall ranking is disproportionate to the amount of traffic we get. I do like the way Buy Sell Ads does it with multiple ranking and criteria to give the advertiser a better overall picture.

Alexa is interesting because some old school companies like PayPerPost use it, Blogvertise, etc. But for me, its just another number in the analytics game.

I am down…sign me up. I am about to crack through the sub 100k ranking and I would gladly pay 25% commission to sell out all my adspace…

Good and Bad idea. You must look at this from the advertisers point of view. What happens when they don’t get any sign ups?
Its fairly easy to get under 100k on Alexa, So many bloggers will be raking in money while advertisers lost out. Let’s say 75% of your advertisers are happy and seeing results. What about the 25% of advertisers losing out?
Good luck if you go through with this idea.

@Deneil Merritt: All business has risk
what about if the advertiser gets a great rate for one year and the blog is on fire >be a good deal then
I may just deal with bloggers I know it’s more to secure them a reliable monthly income.
You right all business is a risk.
That is rare cases, no all bloggers are focus. They can start off for the first 6 months then stop out of nowhere.
That would be best to work with selected bloggers.
