Blogcatalog a so called blogging community recently released their toolbar to “HELP” bloggers.
When I first started blogging I wasted alot of time on there because I thought it would be a great place to meet cool bloggers and get some traffic, it’s not. I did meet a few cool people and am friends with them till today BUT 90 % of the people I knew just months ago have disappeared.
I wanted to have my account deleted because I knew it was no use and I was hip to the owners true nature. The only reason I knew about the toolbar is I heard someone complain on twitter and decided to check it out. I know that the site doesn’t have bloggers or my best interest at heart and I wanted people to be aware of sites that look at you like a meal ticket and a number.
I think I covered everything I wanted to say in the video. I know from experience that people tend to stick up for the owners of a site and idolize them to SUCK UP 
Well the whole premise of this blog is why do we suck up to the WRONG people. Yes it has always amazed me why people look up to people like Joel Comm and other GOOFS these people care about one thing and it’s not YOU.
DISCLAIMER: Is it my intention to continue to work on building a site that HELPS bloggers? YES
Do I kiss up to people because of what they have and who they THINK they are ? NO
Let me add also that I no longer visit blogs or help people that are all about themselves. I reached my hand out in friendship to the owner more then once did he spit on it ? YES fuck him I’m not going to be Mr Nice to people that DON’T deserve it. Strangely it’s seems in blogging and often in life the more of a scumbag your really are the more successful and people kiss up to you I DON’T GET IT. That is really the whole point of this blog. Why do people do that ?
I do live 3 miles from Blogcatalog’s cheap ass office. See for yourself I went there to interview the owner and got a chance to talk with Oscar who works there and is actually a very cool person.

It’s amazing that there are so many networks that come and go. I signed up for this service and in only 4 weeks I was not at all impressed with the value.

Your comments are right on time John. I really don’t use Blog Catalog a whole lot anymore. It just seems so pointless; there is no direction. No one is there to really moderate things and direct the flow of supposed traffic. It became a waste of time for me.

@ Shirley I know you love the place and I would of also. I didn’t mention friends of mine that screwed by them in business/work deals etc I just wanted people to know that they are being CONNED by the site. The toolbar helps one thing BC. You don’t leave their site. They are using people’s content to lower their bounce rate, Alexa and bottom line.
Even after knowing that their site sucked in terms of bloggers not visiting each other they went and TOOK the last little bit of traffic a blogger might of gotten. Oh well
Then they come with the excuse this isn’t for traffic but blog centered relationships or some shit like that.
This is the internet without traffic you don’t exist.

I have used the site off and on since 2005, and have done several positive posts about it. I don’t recall ever getting a ton of traffic from the site. From the SEO point, if you have a blog/site you can buy a directory link that has a good bit of Google Juice(or at least it use to)..nope they are nofollow…
So, yea, I don’t spend a heck of a lot of time on it, and since I have noticed that the links in the directory are nofollow, I probably won’t use much at all…but I won’t delete the account either..but I certainly won’t be adding any other blogs.
If you drop links – they will be deleted and you will never get traffic from BlogCatalog – why? because it’s a directory. Your link is already dropped.
But, if you join a discussion e.g. even about people who despise fat people – and link to a post of your own, that may talk about people who despise fat people .. then your link will not be deleted. It is the people who do it this way get referral traffic from BlogCatalog. I have one post that I received over 15000 hits from BC in 2008 alone ..
As for Gary’s lousy traffic referrals from Blogcatalog – you still have to put something in to get something out – just like with twitter, reddit, digg, etc .. Garry only posted 4 comments – ever- http://www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/search/user/askgaryada
To me, BlogCatalog isn’t a time waster – although I waste a lot of time over there.
As for the toolbar – it only shows up if YOU are logged in BC and click any blog while you are logged in. I usually just log off so I don’t see that toolbar.

Man you are on fire! You are blogging like a mad man these days, keep it up.. On blogcatalog, I agree..it is a big waste of time. I do have there widget on my site because I like to see people’s pretty faces but I do not waste my time on their site.
Blog Catalog has never really given me much traffic.. I work my tush and give away boocoo hours of time to review with detailed reviews, rather then great blog… on other blogs listed there… and then I can’t get on for a month because of bad server problems where I live.. I went from a rating there of 70 (which I really had to work for) down to almost in the 30’s in less then a few weeks time.. grrrrr.. I joined in discussions but if you are not part of the click then you can barely get a hello from anyone.. I have made a couple of friends there and John you are one of them.. Keep blogging.. I am still having severe server problems but as soon as they are fixed I will be blogging regularly again.

Hey I just wanted to say thank you so much…I know that I don’t stop bye often but when I do I like to try and make it meaningful.
I just have to say that you rock and that I appreciate all of the shout outs and the video that you put out with my blog on it..
You too are one of my first blogging friends and I’m glad that we’re still around..

You dont download it. It’s just a slick frame they and many sites use to keep the traffic for themselves.
I would of LOVED to see them come out with something that would actually help a blogger but they are

I’m a little miffed at BlogCatalog… they keep saying my wedding site is all advertising, when there isn’t any advertising on it at all, something I don’t understand, but oh well. I really just go on there now to do a Broadcast update every week. I occasionally get messages from nice bloggers starting out, and I get a bit of traffic out of their groups, but that’s about it.

BlogCatalog always been a joke to me. I know the tricks to pull traffic from it but I don’t go there, the site is mostly fill with blogspot bloggers wasting their time on BC thinking their real bloggers. People adding me and asking me to visit their so call blog, write a post on my blog about their blog that I never spoke to. It’s pretty lame. I think its a waste of time for any real blogger. Stumbleupon, twitter, facebook, etc. All dirve more traffic to your blogs anyway.

I’m kind of nervous to write this post as it seems that a lot of people on here have problems with BlogCatalog..but here it goes.
I am currently interning at BlogCatalog, I’m 22 years old and go to George Mason University. I am a new blogger so all of these opinions are very interesting to me. I just wrote a blog post about how I LIKED the toolbar. As a new blogger on BlogCatalog, I didn’t know where to start and felt overwhelmed with the amount of information available on their website. I felt that the toolbar made it easier and more convenient for me to find other people’s blogs that were similar to what I was already viewing (I was looking at a music festival blog at the time).
Then I come on here and hear everyone ranting about the toolbar being bad and it takes away from the blogger…can someone explain that a little more?
Also, if anyone has any suggestions to make BlogCatalog better, LET ME KNOW and I will listen to you and pass it on to the necessary person.

but from my observations of Blogcatalog they have cheated people and look for people to do shit for free
The toolbar and their linking system is ANTI BLOGGER they are interested in their own interest.
It’s sad because I live 3 miles away from Blogcatalog and I have spoke with Tony and Thought we would be good friends.
