Texas in general has become one of the most prosperous states, largely because Strict State Laws forbid Home Equity Lines Of Credit, Negative Am Loans, and other instruments which caused meltdowns in CA, FL, etc. Texas in general has one of the lowest foreclosure rates in the US., thanks to your State's regulations (enacted in the 80's after a huge Real Estate meltdown crippled Dallas and Houston!) Dude - PEOPLE ARE GREAT. You just need to relax a bit - get rid of the "everyone is out to get me" attitude and let them enter your life. Ya - sometimes you are going to be disappointed - but if you go in with the negative attitude - you will always be disappointed - so - revel in the new found friends - and go make some more. I have been to San Antonio - and sat on the same bench you must have - as I have pictures that are almost the same as yous for the Alamo. Spent some time walking up and down those streets and then down to the river for lunch. Great part of town - cool people and interesting shipping.
